The standard test method covered in ASTM D4541-22: Standard Test Method for Pull-Off Strength of Coatings Using Portable Adhesion Testers is used for evaluating the pull-off strength (otherwise known as adhesion) of a coating system from metal substrates.

Pull testing is a catch-all term for testing that determines the load bearing capacity of fixings. It's possible to test anything from small screws, eyebolts, studs, bolts to reinforcing bars in any size or diameter to walls, slabs and soffits.

As per AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists), the buttons subjected to testing should withstand a minimum pull force of 7.72KG and stay secured and intact without unfastening, breakage or damage for 10s.

Pull out testing involves attaching a suitable test rig to the bolt, screw, anchor or fixing. This is then put under tension to the designed stress load level to determine how strong and secure the fixing is.

Pullout friction coefficient values are observed to be within the range 0.55–1.69. In general, it is observed that the pullout behavior is sensitive to the normal stress and the type of geosynthetics in terms of its surface roughness.

Pull testing is the process used to measure seal strength to pull apart two bonded surfaces. Testing is done for a number of reasons including material selection, sealer and sterilization validation as well as shelf life validation.

Pull off testing is used to measure the tensile and compressive strength of your concrete structure.

During a wire pull test, a wire is pulled upward by a hook until there's either a bond failure of the wire breaks. Most pull tests on wire bonds are performed where the hook is perpendicular to the substrate. To obtain reproducible measurements, hook alignment is very important.
