Withdrawal usually means the course remains on the transcript with a “W” as a grade. It does not affect the student's GPA (grade point average). Although students may be reluctant to have a “W” on their transcript, sometimes “W” stands for Wisdom.

Student initiated withdrawal: The student must: 1. Complete all required information on the BCCC Drop/Add/Withdrawal Form. 2. Have the instructor sign the completed form and record a last day of attendance.

If you withdraw or suspend your studies, you must pay the full fee for all modules studied to date. With regard to any unfinished modules, full payment will be due unless the withdrawal date is within 2 weeks of the module start date.

Withdrawing is not the same thing as dropping a class early in the semester. When a student drops a class, it disappears from their schedule. After the “drop/add” period, a student may still have the option to withdraw. Withdrawal usually means the course remains on the transcript with a “W” as a grade.

Withdrawing from one or two classes generally won't have too much of an impact on your GPA. However, if you withdraw from too many classes, or if they're all high-level courses, you could be in trouble. Dropping a class can affect your financial aid.

Drop: Removal of individual course(s) from the semester/session schedule. Dropping all courses is considered withdrawal. Term: For the purposes of this policy, term is defined as Fall or Spring semester, or Summer sessions.

You may withdraw from the current semester without withdrawing for a future semester. For example, you can withdraw from all classes in summer and stay enrolled for the fall semester. Dropping means that you will remain enrolled in at least one hour in the current semester.
