Summary: Chapter 7. It is the first day of training. For three days, the twenty-four tributes will all practice together, then on the final afternoon they perform in private in front of the Gamemakers, the officials who run the Games.

Summary: Chapter 27. After the District 12 team, including Effie, the stylists, and Haymitch, is introduced, Katniss is raised up to the stage. When she sees Peeta she runs to him, knocking him slightly off balance, and she realizes he has a cane.

Katniss goes along with Caesar's suggestion but tries to keep the focus on Peeta. She finds out, too, that Peeta lost his leg and gets her first look at his prosthetic. Caesar, as expected, asks Katniss about the berries, and she struggles to get the right words out, but, afterward, Haymitch says she was perfect.

Summary and Analysis Part 3: Chapter 26. Katniss and Peeta both spit out the berries, rinsing their mouths with water from the lake as cheers from the people in the Capitol play over the loudspeakers. A hovercraft drops ladders for them and, once on board, the doctors take Peeta away to begin surgery.

Primrose Everdeen Primrose ("Prim") Everdeen is Katniss's younger sister.

Cinna brings out a simple yellow dress that is padded with curves since Katniss has lost so much weight. Cinna tells Katniss that they did want to surgically change Katniss. Katniss looks very unassuming and innocent in her outfit. She knows there's a reason for the simple dress, but Cinna doesn't fill her in.

They face danger from the Capitol. The Capitol is mad because Katniss and Peeta tricked them by pretending to eat poisonous berries and they don't like being made to look as if they are not in control of everything that happens in the Hunger Games.
