CPT requires a signed cooperative agreement or a letter from your employer. If you have 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you are ineligible for OPT, but part-time CPT is fine and will not stop you from doing OPT.

To be eligible for CPT, you must: Have been lawfully enrolled on a full-time basis while physically present in the US for one academic year (i.e. two full terms) unless your academic program requires immediate participation for all students. Be in lawful F-1 status.

If you are approved for CPT, you won't receive a separate EAD. The second page of your Form I-20, your CPT authorization, will serve as proof of your eligibility for employment. This will be used along with your I-94 record to complete Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, with your employer.
