Each team is allowed up to 3 touches in order to return the ball into the net. It is not required that you hit the ball all 3 times. Each time the ball hits the net possession switches to the other team. The rally or volley continues until one team cannot return the ball into the net.

Spikeball or roundnet may only be a decade old but it has definitely caught on, with leagues popping up all over the U.S. It's a fun and competitive game that's super easy to learn for people of all ages and skill levels and you can find it at most retailers.

If you outright miss the net, hit the rim, or the Spikeball bounces twice on the set, you lose the point and the other team serves. If you hit the ball higher than the outstretched hand of the returner, that is a redo (READ: fault). If you hit a pocket on the serve, that is also considered a redo/fault.

Possession changes when the ball contacts the net. Each team has up to 3 hits per possession, but they do not need to use all 3 hits. When sunlight is a factor, teams should switch sides half way through the match.

A player starts a point by serving the ball down onto the Spikeball net so it ricochets up at his opponents. The returning team has up to 3 hits between them (think bump, set, spike) to return the ball back onto the net. The rally continues until a team can't return the ball onto the net within their three touches.

A player may not hit the ball twice in a row unless the first hit is off a block of a spike. The ball may be hit with any part of the body above and including the waist. A team may contact the ball a total of three (3) times before it is sent over the net.

Player 1 stands next to the net and Player 2 stands between 6 to 10 feet away from the net. Player 2 should be standing behind a line that he or she cannot cross, but can move along laterally. Player 2 sets the ball to Player 1 who then hits the ball at Player 2.
