About the ERO PIN An Electronic Return Originator (ERO) PIN is a numeric representation of the preparer's signature used on Form 8879. It's not assigned by any taxing agency, but rather self-selected. It can be any 5-digit number other than all 9's or all 0's.

The City Sales Tax rate is 4.5%, NY State Sales and Use Tax is 4% and the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District surcharge of 0.375% for a total Sales and Use Tax of 8.875 percent.

You're required to electronically file your return if you meet all three of the following conditions: you use software to prepare your own personal income tax return; and. your software supports the electronic filing of your return; and. you have broadband Internet access.

Court-appointed or court-certified personal representatives must attach to the return a copy of the court document showing the appointment. If there's an appointed personal representative, he or she must sign the return. If it's a joint return, the surviving spouse must also sign it.

Is there a difference between an ERO and a paid preparer? Many paid tax preparers are EROs. But an ERO may also electronically file returns that were collected from a taxpayer. An ERO can also arrange with another authorized IRS e-file provider to transmit the return.

Form 8879, IRS e-file Signature Authorization, must be signed by the taxpayer / spouse. The preparer provides the taxpayer / spouse with a signed copy of the return; Form 8879, IRS e-file Signature Authorization; and original Forms 1099-R, W-2, and W-2G.
