Meet State Requirements Be at least 16 years old. Have at least a 10th grade education or its equivalent. Complete a minimum of 1,250 hours of cosmetology courses.

Pennsylvania Licensure Requirements An individual licensed by the State Board of Cosmetology to engage in the practice of nail technology. Nail technology means the practice of manicuring the nails of an individual, including the application of artificial or sculptured nails to an individual.

All salons must apply for licensure at http://.pals.pa.gov and file the correct application with the State Board of Cosmetology. All salons must be inspected and pass inspection prior to operating per the Board's Regulations.

The Cosmetology Law requires 1,250 hours of instruction for licensure as a cosmetologist, which CTC students typically complete over a period of three years (grades 10, 11 and 12). Likewise, the Barbers' License Law requires 1,250 hours of instruction for licensure as a barber.

500 Hours - Applicant must complete 500 additional hours in a teacher curriculum of a licensed cosmetology school. Licensed instructors are qualified to perform any of the functions of a teacher, manager, cosmetologist, esthetician, natural hair braider, or nail technician without additional licensure.

(b) Proof of training shall be a document, prepared by the school where the applicant completed the qualifying training, that includes all of the following: (1) The course title. (2) The student's name, address, and date of birth. (3) The school's name, address, and school code issued by the board.

To operate a Texas salon, the TDLR requires you to have a Texas cosmetology salon license. If you plan to work in your salon, you'll need both a salon license and an operator license.
