Home health aide training programs are required to maintain records for six years of those aides who received certificates upon successful completion of their program.

You will typically need to renew your Home Health Aide certification once per year, or once every two years. You can usually renew your HHA at any time, so renewing early is a good idea, to ensure that it does not lapse.

The aide should request a duplicate certificate from the training program that issued the original certificate. If the training program has closed, or refuses to provide a duplicate, the aide may phone the Help Desk at 877-877-1827.

A current, valid nurse aide or personal care assistant certificate. At least seven hours of paid employment performing nursing or nursing-related services, in a licensed health care facility or agency, within the 24 months preceding your certificate expiration date.

For most care givers, it takes about 75 hours to become a home health aide. Once you complete the training requirement, you will need to submit an application with the state for testing and certification.

Successfully complete a homemaker-home health aide training course that is approved by the Board of Nursing in NJ. Complete a competency evaluation by a NJ licensed home health care agency. Be at least 18 years of age.

Each licensee must complete during the preceding biennial renewal period 20 credit hours of continuing education related to the practice of massage and bodywork therapy. These 20 credit hours must include at least two hours in the subject of ethics.
