The Destination 2025 vision captures the ideal future we strive toward – a transformation of the Nation's aviation system in which air traffic will move safely, swiftly, efficiently, and seamlessly around the globe. Flights will take off and land on time, every time, without delay and there will be no fatal accidents.

The FAA had scheduled initial implementation of all major planned systems by 2025 but not the full integration necessary to provide the complete set of anticipated NextGen benefits. The FAA has made progress in transforming the NAS and expects to finish all the main NextGen components by 2030.

In February 2023, the acting Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Call to Action comprised of a series of events and initiatives to ensure focus and attention on risks to the aviation system.

In 2003, FAA convened a team to assess the Nation's future airport capacity needs. This effort, which became known as the Future Airport Capacity Task (FACT), represents a strategic approach to identify the airports that have the greatest need for additional capacity in the future.

NextGen comprises complex integrated and interlinked programs, portfolios, systems, policies, and procedures. NextGen has modernized air traffic infrastructure in communications, navigation, surveillance, automation, and information management.

Under this strategic objective, the FAA focuses on ensuring seamless and efficient air traffic operations across international airspace boundaries, standardizing air navigation technologies and procedures across these same boundaries, and promoting safe aerodrome operations globally where U.S. interests are strongest.
