Nonpartisan elections are held to select most or all judges in 17 States and for some judges in an additional 3 States. One-half of the States hold elections for State supreme court judges. Seventeen States out of the 32 which have intermediate appellate courts elect judges to these courts.

Each justice is appointed from a list of two or more nominees compiled by the Alaska Judicial Council....To serve on this court, a justice must be: a U.S. citizen; a state resident for at least five years; licensed to practice law in the state; active in law practice for at least five years; and. under the age of 70.

A small claims case is a simplified type of court case for a person to try to recover money or personal property worth $10,000 or less. If your claim is over $10,000, you can still use small claims court, but you must give up the right to collect any amount over $10,000.
