Purpose: Form CT‑W4P is for Connecticut resident recipients of pensions, annuities, and certain other deferred compensation, to tell payers the correct amount of Connecticut income tax to withhold. Your options depend on whether the payment is periodic or nonperiodic.

You are required to pay Connecticut income tax as income is earned or received during the year. You should complete a new Form CT-W4 at least once a year or if your tax situation changes.

Form CT-W4, Employee's Withholding Certificate, provides your employer with the necessary information to withhold the correct amount of Connecticut income tax from your wages to ensure that you will not be underwithheld or overwithheld.

You need to withhold one half of one percent (0.5%) of each employee's taxable wages up to the Social Security contribution base ($160,200 in 2023). Withholding from employees' paychecks for the PFMLA began on Jan. 1, 2021, and benefits are paid to employees as of Jan. 1, 2022.

Wages of a nonresident employee are subject to Connecticut income tax withholding if the wages are paid for services rendered in Connecticut. Wages of a nonresident are not subject to Connecticut income tax withholding if the wages are paid for services performed entirely outside of Connecticut.
