Attorneys must have been engaged in the full-time practice of law as the attorney's principal means of livelihood in a reciprocal jurisdiction for at least four of the past six years. Legal employment prior to admission does not qualify.

North Carolina General CLE Rules Credit hours required: 12 hours per reporting period. Specialty credits required: 2 hours of ethics/professionalism and 1 hour of technology credit annually, by Dec 31st. Once every 3 years, attorneys must complete 1 hour of substance abuse/mental health awareness training.

Requirements: 12 hours each year, including 2 hours of Ethics or Professionalism, and 1 hour of Technology. Every 3 years 1 credit hour must also be in in Substance Abuse. Complete all 12 hours online with LexVid.

The State Bar is a government agency. All licensed North Carolina lawyers must be members of the State Bar. The North Carolina Bar Association is a non-governmental, voluntary, professional organization that lawyers may join, but they are not required to do so to practice law in North Carolina.

THE ANNUAL CLE REQUIREMENTS IN NORTH CAROLINA ARE 12 HOURS OF APPROVED CLE. Of these 12 hours, two must be in the area of professional responsibility or professionalism or any combination thereof, and effective in 2019, at least one hour shall be devoted to technology training.

An active member of the North Carolina State Bar who does not qualify for an exemption must take 12 hours of approved CLE during each calendar year. Of the 12 CLE hours, at least two must be devoted to the area of professional responsibility (ethics) or professionalism.
