A Bronze DofE programme has four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. You must do a minimum of three months activity for each of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections, and plan, train for and do a two-day, one-night Expedition.

It's about choosing to give time to help people, the community or society, the environment or animals. Your volunteering must not be done for a business but can be undertaken for a charity or not-for-profit organisation.

An Assessor can be anyone who is interested in helping you to achieve, has some knowledge of the activity you are doing and can be available over the time you're doing it. They will produce or sign off the relevant Assessor's report for that section, which is uploaded into eDofE.

minimum start age is 14. Complete 4 sections as indicted. Plus an additional 13 weeks in either: Service, Skills, or Physical Fitness. Participants select which section they wish to dedicate the extra months.

What evidence do I need to show I have completed a Section? The minimum is a complete Assessor's Report. This can be handwritten on the form in your Welcome Pack (by your Assessor) and uploaded as a photo, or the Assessor can enter it directly into www.edofe.org/assessor.

Gold DofE Award In order to complete the Gold Expedition section, and gain your Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award you first need to complete a programme of training followed by sufficient practice expeditions to hone your skills. It is advised to complete your Bronze and Silver awards but not necessary.

You will have to repeat the whole expedition. You cannot fail a DofE Expedition. However at the end of a practice expedition we occasionally have to recommend that some groups undertake further training and practice to ensure that they are fully prepared to safely undertake an unaccompanied qualifying expedition.

You need to do at least 6 months Volunteering and a minimum of 6 months on either Physical or Skills and 3 months on the other. It's up to you which one you do for longer. If you did Bronze, you can choose the same activity for Silver, but you need to show development in it.

It will take you at least 6 months for Silver if you've already achieved your Bronze, or 12 months if you've jumped straight into Silver. If you didn't do Bronze, you must undertake a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections.
