The Washington English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards focus on critical language, knowledge about language, and language skills present in the Washington State K-12 Learning Standards. These skills are essential for English language learners (ELLs) as they work towards academic success.

The ELPA21 Standards are organized into six grade levels and/or grade spans: K, 1, 2 3, 4 5, 6 8, and 9 12. Each grade or grade span has 10 anchor standards with five proficiency levels each, for a total of 300 individual-level descriptors.

Since, by definition, ELL status is a temporary status, an ELP level does not categorize a student (e.g., a Level 1 student ), but, rather, identifies what a student knows and can do at a particular stage of ELP (e.g., a student at Level 1 or a student whose listening performance is at Level 1 ).

Pupils in Kindergarten and grade 1 (K-1) must have an overall score of Early Advanced or above and listening and speaking domains at Intermediate or above. Students who do not score at this level are classified as ELL students.

Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) The assessment is aligned to the English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards. AZELLA determines five levels of proficiency: Pre-Emergent, Emergent, Basic, Intermediate and Proficient.

The ILLP is a written plan to provide four (4) hours of English Language Development. Eligible students are placed with non-ELL students in a mainstream English classroom. ... Textbooks, materials, and assessments in English and aligned to the Arizona K-12 English Language Learner Proficiency Standards.

SHIFT 2: PERFORMANCE LEVELS For the purposes of describing these baseline proficiencies, in New York State the English language proficiency continuum has shifted from four levels (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and Proficient) to five levels (Entering, Emerging, Transitioning, Expanding, and Commanding).

Grouping ELLs by proficiency level must take age differences into consideration, avoiding too large an age gap within one class (for example, a first grader and a second grader can be placed together but a first grader and a third grader should not be placed together).

The primary determinant of the appropriate student grouping for SEI Classrooms is the English proficiency level of the students. The proficiency levels and grade levels of the ELLs must be used in order to determine appropriate student placement. The configurations are similar, but not identical, for all grade levels.
