Pepsi was first invented in 1893 as "Brad's Drink" by Caleb Bradham, who sold the drink at his drugstore in New Bern, North Carolina. It was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898, "Pepsi" because it was advertised to relieve dyspepsia (indigestion) and "Cola" referring to the cola flavor.

Pricing strategy:- It has priced its products affordably. This has helped Pepsi reach a large customer group throughout the globe. Affordable pricing has also led to higher sales and revenue as well as popularity. The company has made its products available in all corners of the world in various packs and sizes.

Bradham (1866–1934), a pharmacist in New Bern, North Carolina. Hoping to duplicate the recent success of Coca-Cola, Bradham named his sweet cola-flavoured carbonated beverage Pepsi-Cola in 1898. The drink proved so popular that in 1902 Bradham incorporated the Pepsi-Cola Company.

The Pepsi Challenge The “Pepsi Challenge” was the unofficial start of the soda rivalry. In 1975, Pepsi launched a marketing campaign that showed that during a blind taste test, more people preferred Pepsi over Coke.

So what is the difference? "Pepsi is sweeter than Coke, so right away it had a big advantage in a sip test. Pepsi is also characterized by a citrusy flavor burst, unlike the more raisiny-vanilla taste of Coke.

Pepsi's rising confidence went a step further with the rollout of the “Pepsi Challenge” in 1975. The idea was both simple and ingenious: The brand set up blind taste tests where the majority of consumers participating said they preferred the taste of Pepsi to Coke.

There first advertising campaign in 1936 featured the jingle, “Pepsi-Cola hits the spot / Twelve full ounces, that's a lot / Twice as much for a nickel, too / Pepsi-Cola is the drink for you.” This jingle referred to competitor Coca-Cola's 6.5 ounce bottles.
