SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. We help each student excel. SkillsUSA's mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.

The action plan is an actual document, presented with the following elements: Cover page. Executive summary or letter from the state or community's top elected official. The table of contents. A community profile. An introduction to the plan. An explanation of how the plan was developed.

Community action projects are self-directed project-based service-learning experiences. In summary, students choose a local or global issue of interest and/or personal relevance, design an action plan, and take action.

These activities allow students the opportunity to practice and perform the Essential Elements of the SkillsUSA Framework and receive feedback to strengthen their skills. The SkillsUSA program of work is divided into six categories.

In order to reduce poverty in its community, a Community Action Agency works to better focus available local, state, private, and federal resources to assist low-income individuals and families to acquire useful skills and knowledge, gain access to new opportunities and achieve economic self-sufficiency.

For example students may volunteer their time for a community service organization such as an animal shelter, or food bank. In social acfion projects, students typically work cooperatively with other class members on initiatives they help to identify, plan and direct.

Walk kids home from school. Rake leaves for an elderly neighbor. Mow your neighbor's lawn. Offer dog-walking services.

The competition involves live, role-playing situations. Competitors demonstrate their ability to perform customer service in both written and oral forms including telephone and computer skills, communications, problem solving, conflict resolution and business etiquette.
