Teacher talk has many values in the classroom interaction of young learners. First, it provides language input as a child's language model (Pinter, 2006). Second, teacher speaking supports students speaking in language practice.

Having English as the medium of instruction in their EFL classroom interaction can be a good habit for them to practice speaking and communicating in English. On the other hand, the teacher stated mostly used code-switching and code mixing or sometimes used local language in EFL classroom interaction.

The teacher fulfills his/her role as a facilitator in language instruction by providing students with the tools necessary to communicate. Meanwhile, the students fulfill their role by using the input they are given as they interact with others in the target language.

Thinking, learning, and language are interrelated. From Kindergarten to Senior 4, students use language to make sense of and bring order to their world. They use language to examine new experiences and knowledge in relation to their prior knowledge, experiences, and beliefs.

Seventy percent of the talk time should be student talk time. The remaining 30 percent should be teacher talk time.

If used properly, teacher talk will not only lead and organize learners to participate in all kinds of communicative activities creating environment and chances of exchanging information and expressing ideas but also promote learners' language acquisition by communication and negotiation of meaning.

Quality teacher talk, explaining concepts to students, is important and for students to make the knowledge their own, student talk is critical. It's a balance. Teachers need to hear student talk in order to assess student understanding.
