Summary of DRIE Applicants must be the lease holder or tenant of record, be in receipt of a disability-related government benefit, live in an eligible apartment, pay a rent amount that is more than one-third of the household income, and have a countable annual income of no more than $50,000.

Eligibility Criteria Have a combpined household income for all members of the household that is $50,000 or less; Spend more than one-third of your monthly household income on rent or maintenance; and. Be at least 62 years old.

Tenants who took occupancy after June 30, 1971, in buildings of six or more units built before January 1, 1974, are generally Rent Stabilized. In New York City, apartments are under rent stabilization if they are in buildings of six or more units built between February 1, 1947, and December 31, 1973.

DRIE helps eligible tenants with disabilities stay in affordable housing by freezing their rent. This means tenants can keep paying what they were paying even if the landlord increases the rent. The landlord will get a property tax credit that covers the difference between the new and original rent amount.
