Habit and Size: This deciduous tree typically grows to a height and spread of 15-25 feet (4.5-7.5 meters), though some varieties can reach up to 50 feet (15 meters). Depending on the cultivar, it may boast an upright-spreading habit that becomes more layered with age or a weeping habit.

To ensure good performance, plant flowering cherries on windy, well exposed sites in order that the foliage can dry out in the spring between rain showers.

It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 50 years or more. This tree should only be grown in full sunlight. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water.

Leaves are crimson-flushed bronze when young, but then turn green during the summer. Leaves are 4" long, lance-shaped and tapered. In the fall the leaves turn a bronze to red color for a short time before they are shed. The bark is typical of other flowering cherries with the prominent corky lenticels.

Mid- to late-mid-bloom: SI – Royalton, Summit, Ranier, Royal Ann / Napoleon, Bing, Burlat, Van, Regina, Lambert, Sam, and Windsor; SF – , Stella, Symphony, and Sunburst. Late-bloom: SI – Gold and Hudson; SF – BlackGold.
