Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disease limited to the esophagus and most often triggered by food allergens. Cow's milk is one of the most common foods causing EoE.

EOS Network is a global platform dedicated to confronting eosinophilic diseases. We ensure prompt diagnosis right treatment, and provide support for patients. Join us today to make a difference.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an inflammation of the esophagus (the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach), caused by a specific white blood cell – the eosinophil. Nearly three-quarters of affected cases occur in white males.

If you have EoE, white blood cells called eosinophils build up in your esophagus. This causes damage and inflammation, which can cause pain and may lead to trouble swallowing and food getting stuck in your throat. EoE is rare. But because it is a newly recognized disease, more people are now getting diagnosed with it.

Currently, there is no cure for EoE, making long‐term treatment necessary. Standard treatment modalities include dietary modifications, esophageal dilation, and pharmacologic therapy. Effective pharmacologic therapies include corticosteroids, rapidly emerging biological therapies, and proton pump inhibitor medications.

Excluding certain foods from the diet has been a cornerstone of EoE treatment. During the early 2000s, researchers found that eliminating six common food triggers of esophageal injury—milk, egg, wheat, soy, fish and nuts—substantially reduced signs and symptoms of EoE.

Natural treatments may help manage your symptoms, but they won't cure eosinophilic esophagitis. Some herbal remedies, such as licorice and chamomile, may help reduce acid reflux symptoms. Acupuncture and relaxation techniques such as meditation can also help prevent reflux.

Fruits and vegetables help in reducing eosinophils. In addition, your immunity is boosted by honey, turmeric, pepper, garlic, and ginger.
