The SPCC Rule applies to facilities that: Have an aboveground oil storage capacity of 1,320 U.S. gallons or more in containers which are 55 gallons or greater, or a completely buried oil storage capacity of 42,000 U.S. gallons or greater; and.

OSHA 1910.106 (b)(2)(ii)(a) requires a minimum separation of three feet for flammable storage tanks. Tanks should not be closer than 25 feet from any building, per best practice recommendations followed by West Bend Mutual Insurance Company.

Fuel storage. Stored fuel containers shall be located to minimize exposure to excessive temperatures and physical damage. Containers shall not be stored near exits, stairways or areas normally used or intended for egress. Outlet valves of containers in storage or transport shall be closed.
