If your grades start slipping and you lose access to federal student loans, you may be able to get them back. You can file an appeal directly with your school explaining why your grades slipped. In extenuating circumstances, such as an illness or death in the family, the school can reestablish your eligibility.

Financial Aid Suspension means that you have not met the requirements for satisfactory academic progress and are ineligible until you can either demonstrate to the Financial Aid Office that you are meeting the requirements or successfully appeal your FSA suspension status.

This usually means that a student's GPA falls below a 2.0 GPA for two consecutive semesters.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is defined as the successful completion of coursework toward an eligible certificate or degree. Federal regulations require the Office of Student Financial Aid to monitor the academic progress of students receiving financial aid.

Qualitative Standards - Grade Point Average (GPA) The Satisfactory Academic Progress regulations require that you maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) in order to remain eligible for financial aid. This cumulative grade point average is 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

If you have been placed on Financial Aid Suspension as a result of your failure to meet SAP, you can regain financial aid eligibility by meeting at least one of the following criteria: 1. Correct the SAP problem(s) and meet the overall SAP Policy requirements. 2. Submit successful SAP Appeal.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Criteria Minimum 67% semester completion rate (also known as Pace) - 67% = credits completed divided by credits attempted. Minimum 2.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) - Cumulative GPA is calculated on all credits attempted at Gateway.

How long does SAP restriction and/or probation last? Restriction: Lasts until an approved SAP appeal and/or you begin to meet SAP standards. Even if an appeal is approved, you may be put on a one-semester SAP probation in order to best monitor your academic progress.
