Laid paper is a type of paper having a ribbed texture imparted by the manufacturing process. In the pre-mechanical period of European papermaking (from the 12th century into the 19th century), laid paper was the predominant kind of paper produced.

Laid. Laid paper texture, which strives to emulate the look of fine handcrafted paper, features fine lines running across the page both horizontally and vertically. The grid texture, which is created using a special roller, simulates the pattern created by the screens that used to be used in handmade papermaking.

Sometimes the pattern is more pronounced, but other times you need to know what to look for: a grid of strong vertical lines, called chain lines, divided by more delicate and plentiful horizontal lines, called laid lines. We call this kind of paper laid.

Pocket notebooks are ideal for taking notes on the move because they are compact and don't take up much space in your backpack or pocket. We should always have a notepad to scribble down ideas as they strike; we never know when that will be.

What size you want largely depends on how you'll use the notebook. Pocket-sized notebooks tend to be thin and light, but often have very few pages, sometimes under 50. Half-Letter and Junior Legal sizes are good all-purpose notebook sizes; if you're not sure what size to get, that's probably what you want.

Cardstock. Cardstock is a popular option for making covers for journals because of its thickness and durability. A thick, heavier weight type of scrapbook paper, it is one of numerous superb choices for making signatures in your journal. This paper is also excellent for making things like pockets and art cards.

laid paper is highly valued for its texture. As a printer's paper, laid paper is valued not so much for its weight, stiffness, opacity or clogging rate, but for its texture and color. Laid paper is used in graphic design, advertising and printing.
