Immigrant integration is the process of economic mobility and social inclusion for newcomers and their children.

However, it is helpful to conceptualize the settlement process in four general stages3: pre-arrival, initial reception, intermediate stage, and the long-term stage.

EbA encompasses measures such as ecosystem management, reinforcement and restoration of natural infrastructure, as well as the management of threats associated with the effects of climate change or anthropogenic activities.

Settlement of immigrants is a period of adaptation between newcomers and the host society, during which the federal government provides services to newcomers.

As such, settlement generally refers to acclimatization and the early stages of adaptation, when newcomers make the basic adjustments to life in a new country, including finding somewhere to live, beginning to learn the local language, getting a job, and learning to find their way around an unfamiliar society.

Settlements are usually formed around a key resource and have a history from people settling together in a region. The four main types of settlements are urban, rural, compact, and dispersed. Urban settlements are densely populated and are mostly non-agricultural.
