A 2-way, normally closed, solenoid valve has 2 pipe connections, an inlet called the cavity port and an outlet called the body orifice port. When the valve is energized the plunger opens allowing media to flow through the valve in the cavity port and out the body orifice port. Turn off the power.

What The Numbers 3/2 Mean. The first number in the 3-2 type air valve indicates the number of ports the valve will have. The second number indicates the number of positions that the air control mechanism inside this valve can have.

The two states of the valve are open and closed. When the valve is open, air flows from the inlet (P, 1) to the outlet (A, 2). When the valve is closed, air flows from the outlet (A, 2) to the exhaust (R, 3).

A 5/3-way valve has five ports and three states. They have two solenoids that each can control a valve state. If no solenoid is energized, the valve returns to the central state. Therefore, the valve is mono-stable.
