ToM is the ability to infer and understand another's mental state (the beliefs, thoughts, intentions and feelings of another), and use this information to explain and predict human behavior.

The ToMI-2 is designed to tap a wide range of theory of mind competencies; thus, it may be particularly helpful for identifying areas of strength and weakness in an individual's social-cognitive profile and it can be used to identify developmentally appropriate targets for treatment.

Theory of mind involves understanding that people don't share the same thoughts and feelings as you do. It allows us to predict and interpret the behaviors of others. Another way to think about it is the ability to “tune-in” to other peoples' perspectives.

A child with a robust theory of mind will respond that Sally will look for her marble in the basket. Even though the child knows the basket is not the actual location of the marble, the child is aware that Sally does not know this, and consequently understands that Sally will look for her marble in its former location.

The traditional test for theory of mind is a 'false-belief task. ' This task often involves telling a child a story about two characters named Sally and Ann who put a toy into a basket. When Sally leaves the room, Ann hides the toy in a box.

One is the Theory of Mind (TOM) test (Muris et al., 1999). This test, which was devised for children of 5–12 years, is an interview composed of vignettes, stories, and drawings about which the child is asked to answer several questions.
