Ho-Chunk Nation President Marlon WhiteEagle believes in transparency and with his periodic video messages, informing the people of progress within the Nation and any upcoming activities.

The exact size of the Ho-Chunk Nation was not historically documented at the time. However, their territory extended from Green Bay, beyond Lake Winnebago to the Wisconsin River and to the Rock River in Illinois, tribal territory was by the Treaty of 1825, 8.5 million acres.

Their native name is Ho-Chunk (or Hoocạk), which has been variously translated as "sacred voice" or "People of the Big Voice", meaning mother tongue, as in they originated the Siouan language family.

The Ho-Chunk Nation's ten million acres of ancestral land, between the Mississippi and Rock Rivers, were recognized in treaties between the United States and the Ho-Chunk Nation. Today, the Ho-Chunk Nation government is located in Black River Falls, WI.

The Ho-Chunk Nation government is comprised of four branches of government; executive, legislative, judicial and the general council. This government was set up to provide a communication tool to deal with Federal, State and local governments. It is based on our constitutions of 1963 and 1994.

Welcome Visitors to the Ho-Chunk Nation. We are a proud Nation of 7849 Tribal Members. We are legendary and have been on these lands for over three ice ages. Our cultural ways, songs and stories guide us with values of how to respect the land, the animals and how to live in balance with nature.

Ho-Chunk religious belief was largely an individual matter, and "correct ways of living" included specific personal and group rituals and taboos which were related to clan membership, personal vision quests, and life events such as birth and death.
