The carpal tunnel is formed by the transverse carpal ligament anteriorly and the bones of the wrist posteriorly, laterally, and medially.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a work-related injury when it develops or worsens through performing your job duties. This applies even when the condition develops slowly over time. An experienced workers' compensation attorney can help clients prove that their carpal tunnel syndrome developed because of their job.

The carpal tunnel is an osteofibrous canal situated in the volar wrist. The boundaries are the carpal bones and the flexor retinaculum. In addition to the medial nerve, the carpal tunnel contains nine tendons: the flexor pollicis longus, the four flexor digitorum superficialis and the four flexor digitorum profundus.

Typical Mechanism of Injury: Activities that involve repeated motions of the wrist, such as typing can lead to CTS. In addition, trauma or other injury that causes swelling in the wrist can lead to pressure being placed on the nerve. When the nerve is compressed, it does not work effectively.

The flexor retinaculum is best known for sheltering the median nerve in the carpal tunnel.

The carpal tunnel is formed by the anterior concave surface of the carpal bones and the flexor retinaculum. The flexor retinaculum stretches from the pisiform to the tubercle of the scaphoid proximally and from the hook of the hamate to the trapezium distally.

Boundaries. The floor of the carpal tunnel is formed by the carpal groove (or carpal arch), a deep arch formed by the palmar aspect of the carpal bones. This arch is bounded medially by the pisiform bone and the hook of the hamate, and laterally by the tubercles of the scaphoid and trapezium bones.
