Reporting a participant's death to the TSP The participant's survivors can also report a participant's death—whether the participant was actively employed, separated from federal service, or the holder of a beneficiary participant account—by calling the ThriftLine Service Center at 1-877-968-3778.

To request a TSP withdrawal or distribution after you leave federal service, log in to My Account to begin the request or contact the ThriftLine.

The TSP-99, Withdrawal Request for Separated and Beneficiary Participants will be the place to go for those who are separated and want to start the withdrawal process.

The participant's TSP account may contain funds from traditional (pre-tax), Roth (after-tax), tax-exempt (if uniformed services), or rollover contributions (from an IRA or an employer plan) . All death benefit payments will be disbursed proportionally from any traditional and Roth money in the participant's account .
