Permanent Change of Address: A permanent Change of Address (COA) order provides for “piece-by-piece” forwarding of primarily First-Class Mail® service for 12 months and Periodicals for 60 days, but generally does not provide the forwarding of USPS Marketing Mail® service or Package Services Mail.

On the designated Change of Address (COA) start date, USPS stops delivering mail to your previous address. As we redirect mail to your new address, you can expect it to start arriving within 7-10 Postal business days from the COA start date.

How long does a permanent Change of Address last? Mail forwarding for a permanent Change of Address will last for 12 months (however note: periodicals will only get forwarded for 60 days).

Extended Mail Forwarding provides customers the ability to extend the forwarding of their mail in six-, twelve-, or eighteen-month increments, not to exceed a total of eighteen months of extended forwarding time. Extended Mail Forwarding is only available for permanent Change of Address.

To forward a letter sent to the wrong address, simply cross out the address on the envelope and rewrite the new address in black letters. Then simply place it into the mailbox and your mail carrier will take it from there.

If your move is temporary, the USPS can forward your mail from your old address to a new one for 15 days to one year. To get started, fill out an official USPS change of address form. This covers questions about the type of move, the mail forwarding start and end date, and more.

Change of Address (COA) is a request to tell the United States Postal Service (USPS) to reroute your mail (including letters and packages) for ALL/OR SELECTED individuals at the specified address.
