OSHA's current standard for occupational exposure to lead during soldering operations is set at 50 micrograms lead per cubic meter of air (50mg/m3), measured as an 8-hour time weighted average exposure (e.g., employee exposure to lead in air, measured and averaged over an 8-hour work day).

This work includes, but is not limited to, welding, brazing, cutting, grinding, soldering, thawing pipe, torch-applied roofing, or chemical welding.

Permit Authorization—The hot work permit should contain the following information: Name of employee or contractor authorized to perform the hot work. Location of hot work area. Nature of work to be performed.

Before performing hot work, you should consider the following: The fitness and readiness-to-use of all the involved equipment must be tested. Task-specific personal protective equipment / gear should be available at the site and workers must be well-qualified on how to use, clean, and store them properly.

Stay up-to-date and help keep personnel safe. NFPA 51B, Standard for Fire Prevention During Welding, Cutting, and Other Hot Work helps you reduce the risks associated with hot work projects. Requirements cover welding, heat treating, grinding, and other applications likely to produce sparks or flames.
