I found the EIT to be much harder than the PE because of the breadth of questions. GPA has nothing to do with the test or being a good engineer. Being able to quickly identify the 50% of the questions you can answer in a minute or less is the key. Get that 50% done, you can then relax on the rest.

Active member. Of course having an EIT is worth something. Where I work, you could have your degree in Engineering, but without the EIT, you are not considered an Engineer. Even you are JUST an Engineer in Training, you are still an Engineer.

Education/Work Experience - To be eligible to take the PE examination, an applicant shall have one of the following: 1) A diploma or degree of not less than 4 years in an engineering course of study from an engineering school or college approved by the examining board and at least 4 years of engineering experience.

The applicant must have passed the NCEES Principles and Practice Exam, the Fundamental of Engineering Exam, and have 8 years of engineering experience (education included). Applicants may apply using NCEES Council Record or application by examination.

An EIT can perform engineering work under the supervision of a professional engineer. With the exception of New Brunswick, PEO (Ontario) and OIQ (Quebec), EITs are allowed to use the title "Engineer" as long as they also include the EIT designation in either their name or their title.

After accumulating an amount of engineering experience as an EIT, four years in most states, and meeting other requirements, the engineer is eligible to take the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam specific to their discipline. When this exam is passed, the EIT becomes a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).

The EIT License and Certification is a professional designation you receive after passing the NCEES FE exam (Fundamentals of Engineering exam) and completing a degree from an ABET-accredited school. “EIT” is an acronym that stands for Engineer-in-Training.

Colloquially, the FE exam and EIT exam are used interchangeably. Officially, the exam is referred to as the NCEES FE Exam and the certification you receive after passing the exam is called EIT (or EI, depending on your state). The FE exam is a 6-hour, 110-question exam.
