Personal information includes, but is not limited to: Name, age, sex, weight, height. Home address and phone number. Race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation.

BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) sets out the access and privacy rights of individuals as they relate to the public sector. FIPPA establishes an individual's right to access records in the custody or control of a "PUBLIC BODY", including access to one's own "PERSONAL INFORMATION".

Steps to follow when requesting records If you want to request records from a public body or private organization in BC, the first step is to make your request in writing. Be as specific as possible. Deliver your request directly to that public body or organization. Keep a copy for your records.

A non-refundable application fee of $10 will now applied to all general FOI requests.

Section 13 is a discretionary exception to the right of access to information. It permits public bodies to withhold information that would reveal advice or recommendations developed by or for a public body or a minister.
