What is the EU Ecolabel? The EU Ecolabel is the official European Union voluntary label for environmental excellence. Established in 1992 and recognised across Europe and worldwide, the EU Ecolabel certifies products with a guaranteed, independently-verified low environmental impact.

Established in 1992, the EU Ecolabel is a third party certified Type I ISO 14024 aimed to promote products and services which have a reduced environmental impact thus helping European consumers distinguish more environmentally friendly products.

To be awarded the EU Ecolabel, goods and services should meet high environmental standards throughout their entire life cycle: from raw material extraction through production and distribution to disposal. The label also encourages companies to develop innovative products that are durable, easy to repair and recyclable.

The EU Ecolabel is an EU-wide label awarded to green products and services. A version of the label for retail financial products has been considered as an option to help retail investors make informed investment decision on the sustainability features of investment products.

The EU Ecolabel is a voluntary scheme. Its use is not compulsory. To obtain the EU Ecolabel for products and services, the following steps must be taken: Manufacturers, importers, service providers and retailers can apply to the competent national body for the EU Ecolabel.
