A Letter of Credit is an arrangement whereby Bank acting at the request of a customer (Importer / Buyer), undertakes to pay for the goods / services, to a third party (Exporter / Beneficiary) by a given date, on documents being presented in compliance with the conditions laid down.

Letter of Credit Presentation Period Some letters of credit require a presentation period of seven days, some 15, etc. If the letter of credit does not state a presentation date, the exporter has 21 days ing to UCP Article 14c.

UCP 600 defines presentation period as 21 days. As per UCP 600, a presentation including one or more original transport documents subject to articles 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 or 25 must be made by or on behalf of the beneficiary not later than 21 calendar days after the date of shipment.

Electronic presentation contains electronic documents including digitally signed e-bill of lading. Advising bank checks the documents. If documents require no correction then advising bank make the electronic presentation to the issuing bank. Issuing bank checks the documents.

Required LC Expiry Date means the day that is the ninety-first (91st) day following the Maturity Date of the Notes issued pursuant to the Loan Agreement. Required LC Expiry Date means the date which occurs thirty days after the Expiration Date.

But such documents have to be presented within the time limits set in the LC. If no such presentation time is laid down in the LC, branches will not accept the documents presented 21 days after date of shipment (Article 14i).

When the export bill is drawn under letter of credit arrangement, it is the duty of negotiating bank to scrutinize carefully whether all the documents required under L/C are presented and they are drawn in conformity to the terms of letter of credit.
