Community Care of North Carolina/ Carolina Access (CCNC/CA), provides Medicaid and North Carolina Health Choice recipients with a medical home and Primary Care Provider (PCP). A Primary Care Provider manages care for continuity and ensures services are provided that are medically necessary.

The NC Medicaid Enrollment Broker provides services to help NC Medicaid beneficiaries learn about their NC Medicaid health care options, find information about health care options and primary care providers, and enroll in a health care option.

Medicaid and CHIP provide health and long-term care coverage to more than 70 million low-income children, pregnant women, adults, seniors, and people with disabilities across the U.S. Total Medicaid and CHIP enrollment in North Carolina was 1,851,558 in June 2020.

The federal government pays 90% of the cost, while hospital assessments and the Prepaid Health Plan (PHP) premium taxes that health insurance companies in North Carolina pay would cover the remaining 10%.
