If you have a 4-‐point scale (4 being best) and 4 criteria then the highest score, or 100% is 16; the lowest score is 4 or 64%.

Grades are more useful and meaningful: ​When students get clear grades and feedback on a four point scale, they can monitor their progress and set goals for their learning. Teachers can also provide more specific feedback on how to improve from a “3” to a “4”, using the rubric.

Letter Grades. A+, A, A- indicates excellent performance. B+, B, B- indicates good performance. C+, C, C- indicates satisfactory performance. D+, D, D- indicates less than satisfactory performance.

Student GPAs and transcripts will also be based on the four-point scale (e.g. a “4” is equivalent to an A or 4.0 points in the GPA scale, a “3” is equivalent to an B or 3.0 points in the GPA scale, etc.).

The 4.0 scale is the most commonly used GPA scale. A 4.0 represents an A or A+, with each full grade being a full point lower: 3.0=B, 2.0=C, and 1.0=D. Pluses are an additional one-third of a point, while minuses are the subtraction of one-third of a point.

Common examples of grade conversion are: A+ (97–100), A (93–96), A- (90–92), B+ (87–89), B (83–86), B- (80–82), C+ (77–79), C (73–76), C- (70–72), D+ (67–69), D (65–66), D- (below 65).
