Noble Drew Ali, Prophet of Islam, founded the Moorish-American Science Temple in Chicago. In the 1920s, this temple was a center for African-American ethnic pride and political activism. Most African Americans, Ali contended, are actually of Moorish descent.

Shortly after his release by the police, Drew Ali died at age 43 at his home in Chicago on July 20, 1929. Although the exact circumstances of his death are unknown, the Certificate of Death stated that Noble Drew Ali died from "tuberculosis broncho-pneumonia".
