The acceptance rate for the program was 36% for the 2021-2022 year. The UC Berkeley Graduate Division requires that international applicants submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. Two letters of recommendation are required for the program.

A GSR is a graduate student who is engaged in or assisting in research projects. GSRs perform research broadly related to their degree programs in an academic department or research unit under the direction of a faculty member or authorized Principal Investigator.

The minimum graduate admissions requirements are: A bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution; A satisfactory scholastic average, usually a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale; and.
