The PDMS-2 is a standardized, norm-referenced instrument designed to assess the motor abilities of children from birth through 6 years of age using 6 subtests.

The PDMS-2 can be used by occupational therapists, physical therapists, diagnosticians, early intervention specialists, adapted physical education teachers, psychologists, and others who are interested in examining the motor abilities of young children.

What it measures: Six subtests measure motor abilities in children: reflexes, stationary, locomotion, object manipulation, grasping, and visual motor integration.

This new online course will make sure you confident in using the PDMS-2 in clinical practice. The Peabody Developmental Motor Scales- 2 (PDMS-2) is recognised as the first nationally standardised assessment tool to provide separate gross and fine motor scores for children between the ages of birth to 71 months old.

The raw score can be calculated by subtracting the number of errors between the highest basal and lowest ceiling from the item number of the lowest ceiling.

The raw score is the sum of the various scores (0,1 and 2) on each of the items. As the test is "entered" at the basal level (where child scores three 2's in a row), it may be assumed (and this assumption is built into the test) that the child also scored 2's on all the items before the start (basal level) of the test.
