How to Apply. Download and submit the appropriate form from the list below. New applicants: Use the DRIE initial application. Renewing applicants: Use the DRIE renewal application or, if you have been in the program for five or more consecutive benefit periods, the short-form renewal application.

(a) In order to qualify for SCRIE benefits the applicant must be 62 years of age or older. In order to qualify for DRIE benefits the applicant must be a person with a disability who is 18 years of age or older.

This program is for tenants with a disability who qualify to have their rent frozen at their current level and be exempt from future rent increases. The program covers legal increases in your rent by applying credits to your property tax bill.

The Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) program offers eligible senior citizens who live in Mitchell-Lama developemnts an exemption from future rent increases. Please note, the application process can take approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

You must renew your Rent Freeze Program benefits to keep them. The Department of Finance (DOF) will mail you a renewal application about 60 days before your benefit expiration date. To renew, you'll have to recertify your eligibility for the program.
