The USD (United States dollar) is the official currency of the United States of America. The United States dollar, or U.S. dollar, is made up of 100 cents. It is represented by the symbol $ or US$ to differentiate it from other dollar-based currencies.

Examples: 500 or 500,00 or 500.00 = five hundred dollars and no cents. 500,15 or 500.15 = five hundred dollars and fifteen cents. 500,150 or 500.150 or 500,150.00 or 500.150,00 = five hundred thousand, one hundred fifty dollars and no cents.

In business writing, currency is usually expressed in symbols and figures ($10).

In the United States, Mexico, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Pacific Island nations, and English-speaking Canada, the sign is written before the number ("$5"), even though the word is written or spoken after it ("five dollars", "cinco pesos").

The symbol $, usually written before the numerical amount, is used for the U.S. dollar (as well as for many other currencies).

If the currency type is in question, the symbol may include a country prefix, such as CA$, Can$ or C$ for Canadian dollars, or US$ for U.S. dollars. The ? symbol is used to represent the euro currency, ¥ represents the Japanese yen, and ? signifies a florin, such as the Aruban Florin.

In addition to five U.S. territories, 11 countries adopted the U.S. dollar as their official currency: Ecuador, El Salvador, Zimbabwe, The British Virgin Islands, The Turks and Caicos, Timor and Leste, Bonaire, Micronesia, Palau, Marshall Islands, and Panama.
