Check. I think that Abernathy Farm is the best place for big builds, because there is plenty of space and plenty of height. Even if you just want it to be a normal settlement with no amazing builds, that's okay. The infrastructure is ready and once you acquire it there is little work to be done.

It helps, once you have settlements you can connect them with trade routes, this lets you store stuff in the workbenches that then becomes available at other settlements. I'd say Hangman's Alley is the most annoying. At least if you're trying to have a high population. Then again I haven't found all 30 settlements yet. Hangman's Alley is very difficult to support settlers in.

Each settlement needs the numbers next to food and water to be higher than the number of settlers who live there. To increase your food supply, plant crops and assign settlers to manage them. For water, build a few water pumps or ? if the settlement is on the coast or contains a large puddle ? a water purifier.
