Give a full reference to the source in a footnote the first time it is mentioned (see 'Footnotes'). After that, it can be cited using the author's last name and the footnote number where a full reference to the source was last given (n ...).

Do not place multiple footnotes at the same point in your text (e.g. 1, 2, 3). If you need to cite multiple sources in one sentence, you can combine the citations into one footnote, separated by semicolons: 1. Hulme, ?Romanticism and Classicism?; Eliot, The Waste Land; Woolf, ?Modern Fiction,? 11.

Ibid Ibid is short for the Latin ibidem, which means ?in the same place?. If you're referencing the same source but different page, follow 'Ibid' with a comma and the new page number(s). Minow and LaMay, Presidential Debates, 24-25. Ibid. Ibid, 28-30.

If you refer to the same source again in your paper, you do not need to repeat the same full citation.

If there is a pinpoint reference, that is, a reference to a specific place in the cited text, and the next footnote is to the same work and to the same place in the cited text, use 'ibid'. The pinpoint reference should not be repeated.

Use 'ibid' to refer to a source in the immediately preceding footnote, including any pinpoints. 'Ibid' should not be used where there are multiple sources in the preceding footnote. 'Ibid' should always be capitalised when it appears at the start of a footnote.

Use of ibid. "Ibid." (the abbreviation for "ibidem", meaning "in the same place") refers to the work cited in the preceding footnote or to the preceding work within the same footnote.

Under Reference type, select Footnote. Under Insert reference to, select Footnote number. At the bottom of the Cross-reference dialogue box, you will see a large area titled For which footnote. Listed in this area is every existing footnote in your document.
