Finally, you can use the Ctrl + Shift + A shortcut to quickly trace precedents for an entire worksheet. This shortcut will select all of the cells in a worksheet, so you can then press the F5 or Ctrl + F5 shortcut keys to highlight all of the cells that are referenced by formulas in the worksheet.

Here's how to find them. Select a cell, or a range of cells. If you select one cell, you search the whole worksheet. If you select a range, you search just that range. Click Home > Find & Select > Go To Special. Click Formulas, and if you need to, clear any of the check boxes below Formulas.

To use Trace Error in Excel, select the formula cell with the error displayed in it. Click the ?Trace Error? drop-down button in the ?Formula Auditing? button group on the ?Formulas? tab in the Ribbon. The feature is called trace precedents and dependents. Open your workbook to a sheet that contains cells with precedents or dependents. Select the cell in which you want to check precedents and/or dependents. Click the Trace Precedents or Trace Dependents button in the Formula Auditing group of the Formulas tab.
