Image tagging is the process of identifying and labeling the contents of an image. This can be done manually by someone looking at the image and typing in a description, or done automatically using machine learning technology.

Docker doesn't provide a one-liner rename operation. But, with the combination of tagging and removing, you can achieve the desired result: Step 1: Tag the existing image with the new name. Step 2: Once tagged successfully, you can remove the old tag or image.

Docker offers support to add labels into images as a way to add custom metadata on them. The label syntax on your Dockerfile is as follows: LABEL <key>=<value> <key>=<value> <key>=<value> ... The LABEL instruction adds metadata to an image.

You can also specify the Image tag you want to pull in the Dockerfile. Let's say you have a Dockerfile to pull an Ubuntu Image with the latest version. If you want to build the Image with a custom tag called my-ubuntu, you can use the following command. sudo docker build -t tag-demo:my-ubuntu .
