Bates College is located in Lewiston, ME about 40 minutes north of Portland and 30 minutes west of Freeport, ME (the corporate headquarters of L.L. Bean). It is rural, but not remote, however the town of Lewiston feels slightly depressed.

Faculty and staff may purchase a parking permit online. This is the only way to purchase a parking permit at this time. After payment is made, the permit may be picked up in the Public Safety Office. Permits are good from the first day of autumn semester through the day before autumn semester of the following year.

Any vehicle parking anywhere on campus is required to have a permit. All students are encouraged to register their vehicle with Campus Safety, and the permit is integral to that registration process.

Party Scene Some decent frat/house parties, weekends only. Good parties are few and far between.

Permits are processed at the Public Works Agency counter, Monday through Thursday from AM to PM, and alternate Fridays from AM to PM (except holidays), at a cost of $78.00 per permit (as of July 1, 2022). Permits expire every two years on a common date for each parking district.

Virtual Permitting CSULB uses the License Plate Recognition (LPR) as our virtual permit system. No plastic hangtags or paper permits will be issued. The vehicle's license plate will be used to verify parking purchases. There is a 2-vehicle limit per student permit.
