For the workflow transition from Done to In-Progress, add a post function "Clear Field Value" and select Resolution. This will clear the resolution field value when a ticket is transitioned back to In-progress by automation or by user manually .

Resolution Field can't be made optional. DO NOT put the field on any screen except the one presented in the transition where it is to be set. Resolution is a special field in JIRA. It has an initial value of 'Unresolved', which means the field is NULL in the database.

Go to post-functions -> Update Field Value -> Resolution = Done. Publish workflow.

As for ways around this, well in Jira you can use the {noformat} tag on both ends of your text to encapsulate it to prevent Jira from using the wiki markup on that text there. You could also use {code} in the same way.

The resolution field is a special one, and you can only edit it if you add it to a screen, change it as part of a post function, or set it using an automation.

An issue is crossed out when it is resolved. That is just when the resolution field has a value (and it does not matter what that value is called). Unresolved issues have an empty resolution.

When does a strikethrough appear on the issue view? A strikethrough will appear across the issue key of child issues (e.g. subtasks) and linked issues when they have a resolution. By default, workflows are set up so that when an issue is moved to a status in the Done category, a resolution is automatically set.
