To complete your Learner's Permit application, you must make an appointment at any of the MVA's full-service offices. You can complete the pre-application and make your appointment online with myMVA. After completing your appointment, your permit will be mailed to you.

Any professional applying for electrical permits must have a Washington State electrical contractor's license and a Seattle business license. Property owners may do their own work when they own and occupy the property they're working on. Some projects require plan review and are not issued the same day.

When do I need a building permit: Adding a room. Build, demolish, or move a carport, garage, or shed of more than 120 square feet and/or greater than 10' in height. Finish and attic, garage, or basement to make additional living space. Cut a new window or door opening, or widen existing openings.

The Residential Access Permit is required for any modification or new installation of a residential entrance flowing onto a County road, with or without the need to remove and replace concrete curb and gutter.

To convert unfinished basement space into a finished space: If structural changes are involved or moving a bearing wall. If the property is located in a Flood Zone, Historic District or the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area.

A building permit is required for construction of any new residential dwelling. Residential structures with shared common spaces (i.e. condos, apartments, high/mid-rises) are processed as commercial new structure or shell permits. A separate permit is required for electrical and plumbing work.

A Building Permit is required to construct, enlarge, alter, reconstruct, repair, move, demolish & replace a building or structure; to convert unfinished space to occupiable rooms; and/or to change the occupancy or use of a building or portion of a building.

A mechanical permit is required when: Ductwork is being installed in a dwelling that does not have ductwork, or additional ductwork not covered by other permits. Mechanical work was not included with the scope of work for an existing building permit. Additional mechanical work is being completed.
