Security roles define how different users access different types of records. To control access to data and resources, you can create or modify security roles and change the security roles that are assigned to your users. A user can have multiple security roles. Security role privileges are cumulative.

Select Settings > Users + permissions > Column security profiles. Select an existing profile, or select New Profile, enter a name, enter a description, and then select Save. Select the Users tab, select + Add Users, select the users that you want to control access, and then select Add.

Data access is restricted at the row level with Row-Level Security, whereas data access gets restricted at the column level with Column-Level Security. For example, because Boston is a value (row) in the City Dimension, only salespeople in Boston can view sales in this city.

Record-level permissions are granted at the table level, but you may have certain columns associated with a table that contain data that is more sensitive than the other columns. For these situations, you use column-level security to control access to specific columns.
